Top Sawyer

From Dickens’ “Oliver Twist”, Fagin referring to Jack Dawkins said,

“Wasn’t he always top-sawyer among you all!…Eh?”

Definition of top sawyer

  1.  worker at a sawpit who stands above the timber
  2.  a person in a position of advantage or eminence

Perhaps more fitting today to describe me as the oldest living Sawyer in my line.
